About The Owner

Steven Feinberg's love of musical performance comes from two decades
spent in front of an audience. Already singing and playing piano since the age of nine, Steven's introduction to the art of mixing music came in 1992, when he began hosting a world music show on his high school radio station, KRSM, in Dallas, Texas. He instantly became became attached to the craft, loving the challenge of finding new music and the joy in sharing it with others. He continued in at Wake Forest University, playing a variety of public events and hosting a weekly show
on WAKE internet radio. Since moving to Raleigh in
2001, he has played at a long list of area locations, including Duke University, Solas, Art Space, UNC, Talulla’s, Bogart’s, Red
Room, and Mosaic Lounge. He has also performed at SignalFest (Chapel Hill, NC), the Across The Threshold Conference (Duke University), the Miami Winter Music
Conference (Miami, FL), the Mosaic Music Festival series (Raleigh, NC), and internationally in such locations as London, England and
Ibiza, Spain.
In addition to his work as a DJ, Steven
has spent many years researching and performing music. As a child, he was a classically-trained vocalist, completing four European tours with the St. Mark's Choir of Texas, performing in such venues as Notre Dame (Paris) and
St. Paul’s Cathedral (London), and was a member of the Texas State
Private School Choir. In college, he joined the Wake Forest University Chorus and sang backup
for renowned poet Maya Angelou during the musical premier of her presidential inaugural poem, “On The Pulse of Morning.” After moving to Barcelona, Spain in 2004 to study at the Enforex Language Center, he then focused his research on music history and musicology while earning his M.A. in
Liberal and Latin American Studies at Duke and Oxford Universities.
In addition to owning SonVedra and acting as its head DJ, Steven plays regularly at
Mosaic Wine et Lounge and Solas,
both located in the Glenwood South district of Raleigh. He also serves as Director of Publicity for Duke University's annual "Across The Threshold”
conference and is a Co-Planner and resident DJ for the Mosaic Music Festival series. True to his love of exploring new sounds
and
expanding the musical horizons of his audience, he often incorporates
live artistic performance during his sets, including capoeiristas, percussionists, and belly dancers.
